Sir

Regitration Branch

General Post Office

Hongkong

14th March 1899.

I beg most respectfully to apply for an increase of my Salary and would thank you to forward my application for H.B. the Governor's consideration.

Since the opening of this Branch in December "gothe regis- tration & parcel work has increased to a great extent as way be seen from the attached tables.

The increase alone, in registered covers dealt with by this office during the year "98, amounts to fully more than half the total amount of registered covers dealt with by the 3.F.0. during the year "96. While the increase in parcels during 96 is almost equal to one half of the total number of parcels dealt with during"96.

This increase of work has not been followed by a corres- ponding increase of staff as the only addition that has been made to my staff (Since February "97) was the appointment of Mr Remedios in April 1898 at a Salary of $20 per month.

I may here mention that it would have been utterly impos- sible for the present staff to successfully cope with the work, had I not instituted improved methods in the despatch of registered covers and parcels. These improvements were copied to a great extent from English.
